We have paid the Sriphong Phukaoluan (Krabi) Foundation the maintenance fee for the 2 orphans for 2008.

I have met the 2 boys again, but this time with all the other tsunami orphans in Krabi. The term ‘orphans’ is used in Thailand also if one of the parents has died but the other one lives. I consider the members of the Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation to be caring, thoughtful, sensitive and efficient. The foundation is named after its founder and does not only take care of children, but also of the sick, the poor and the elderly who were in one way or another victims of the tsunami. The organisation is officially recognized by the Thai Government. They visit the orphans once every 2 months in their homes, and the other month they invite the orphans, with a foster parent, mother, father, or whoever they live with, to a centre in Krabi so that the Foundation can check on each child’s welfare. In January the atmosphere at the meeting was on purpose subdued, as the country was in mourning because of the death of the king’s sister.
