JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2007 - 2

Suhaimee is only happy

when his mother is present.

  1. 1.Nuttapong Barem was born AFTER the tsunami, 23.08.2548(2005). His mother was therefore not entitled to ANY compensation.  When I met him on Koh Pu, an island in Krabi Province - a VERY long journey - his grandmother was looking after him.  It was low tide, and his mother was collecting cockles from the sea bed. If she is lucky she earns 100 Baht per day – about ₤1.40.

  2. 2.Suhaimee Lemkoh’s date of birth is 21.05.2545(2002) and lives with his widowed mother on Koh Lanta, also an island in Krabi Province, and another VERY long journey.  I found him to be a very shy, frightened little boy.  However, I hope his confidence will grow when I get to know him better.

Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation deals with the sick, the poor, the elderly, the orphans, etc. in Krabi Province. La, formerly of HI Phi Phi , works with them, and asked me if  Phi Phi AID would support 2 tsunami orphans - actually ½  orphans, as their mothers live - whose fathers were tsunami victims.  This entails Phi Phi AID making an annual donation to the foundation, which will use it directly for the 2 orphans whichever way the members consider appropriate;  they will keep a close record of expenditure and inform us of the details.  Both  boys live with their mothers, who are not on Phi Phi Island at present but hope to settle there again eventually.

Nuttapong has perhaps never

seen a European before
