APRIL  MAY & JUNE 2008

I frequently walk through the centre of Phi Phi Island, and it is always a pleasure to meet persons Phi Phi AID has helped.  Whilst you are waiting for news of new projects I thought you might be interested in some examples of  past projects, but I could give many more!  The Committee informed me that many of you are always interested in the Newsletters.

The independently examined 2007 accounts were presented and approved, as was the Trustees’ Report.  I thanked all for their dedicated work, and we had a long discussion about Phi Phi AID’s achievements and future.  We have not yet completed what we set out to do after we were first established, but have made immense progress, and hope that in the not too distant future we can finish, having contributed tangibly to the reconstruction of the island’s community.  We are in the midst of a few projects, but I prefer to report on those when these are completed, or in a further advanced state.

In the September-October 2005 I informed you that Phi Phi AID had bought a ‘long-tail’ taxi boat for Khun Lee, to enable him to sustain his family, and to replace some needed transport infrastructure. In the May-August 2006 I reported that Phi Phi AID had bought building material for the reconstruction of his and his wife’s, (Khun Gee) house.

In another  Newsletter I informed you that Phi Phi AID had bought cooking equipment for Khun Gee, to enable her to re-open a little eating house.  Not long ago I had a delicious cool drink in their little restaurant, even though they offered me a full meal, but time was against me! Khun Lee allows his nephew to operate his boat these days, as he says that he is too old now to do so himself.  The traumatic experience of the tsunami aged him considerably.

Recently the Trustees and Committee members attended. Phi Phi AID’s Annual General Meeting in my English house.
